TANAH JAMBU, Friday, 14 November 2025 – The Junior Officer Development Course (JODC) 02/2025 at the Defence Academy, Royal Brunei Armed Forces (DA RBAF) reached a significant milestone in Week 3, marked an important milestone as participants completed the International Security Studies module, gaining essential insights into global and regional strategic issues.
The sessions led by the DA RBAF Senior Academic Advisor, providing knowledge on Security Theories and Concepts, alongside an extensive analysis of the historical and geopolitical complexities of the South China Sea. This foundation was immediately complemented by external expertise from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs detailing the vital role of International Organisations and offering a closer look at the principles and priorities governing Brunei Darussalam’s Foreign Policy on the global stage. This high-level engagement provided JODC participants with invaluable real-world exposure to international diplomacy, highlighting the essential connection between defence strategy and diplomatic presence in fostering global security and cooperation. The visit underscored the DA RBAF’s commitment to developing officers to possess diplomatic intelligence.
The objective of this module is to ensure the practical application of this strategic knowledge, participants actively engaged in intensive syndicate discussions and delivered group presentations on selected international security issues. This collaborative approach was designed to sharpen analytical thinking and encourage the translation of theoretical concepts into actionable strategic analysis. The International Security Studies module successfully achieved its aim to enhance the participants’ understanding of global security frameworks, equipping them with the critical analysis skills necessary to function effectively as future military and diplomatic leaders within the Royal Brunei Armed Forces.
