TANAH JAMBU, 27 May 2025 – As the Junior Officer Development Course (JODC) 01/2025 progresses into the end of the course, Week 5 and Week 6 emphasis Strongly on Military Studies Module, made up of War Studies and Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) Systems & Policies Studies. The Module provides the course participants with valuable insights into the evolution of military in today’s world.
During Week 5, course participants commenced with War Studies where the concept of war is defined through the lens of Prussian General Carl von Clausewitz, followed by an exploration of war theories, the historical evolution of warfare, and the impact of emerging technologies on modern conflicts. Rather than adhering to a single theoretical perspective, the course introduces multiple strategic thinkers, including Sun Tzu and Antoine Henri Jomini, ensuring a well-rounded understanding of warfare principles.
In Week 6, course participants focused on the RBAF Systems & Policies Studies, gaining valuable insights into essential military processes carried out by various departments within the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF). The included sessions were from the Judge Advocate General’s Office (JAG) , Directorate of Finance and Acquisition, Directorate of Logistics, Manning and Record Office as well the Finance Division under the Directorate of Personnel, and J6 Cell from Joint Force Headquarter (JFHQ).
To reinforce their understanding and encourage critical thinking, participants took part in group presentations. These sessions gave them the opportunity to share perspectives, apply theoretical knowledge, and develop key skills in public speaking, analysis, and confidence building. The week concluded with a final assessment in the form of written examination on the Military Studies Module.
Together with earlier modules, this exposure plays a vital role in preparing participants for their future roles. It equips them with the strategic awareness and foundational knowledge needed to serve effectively as junior officers in the RBAF.
