TANAH JAMBU, 13 October 2024 – The Intermediate Staff Course (ISC) 24/2024 Course Participants have wrapped up the Islamic and War Studies module, exploring the events that have shaped Brunei as of today. The course participants have gained an in-depth insight into Islamic and War studies throughout the one-week module from diverse perspectives through engaging lectures, video teleconferences and site visits.
Throughout the week, the ISC 24/2024 course participants had the opportunity to expand their understanding and knowledge through interactions with esteemed speakers representing different disciplines. The course participants have been actively involved in the sessions covering a wide range of topics; from Islamic War Studies by Dr Majdey from the Sultan Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Centre for Islamic Studies, Universiti Brunei Darussalam to Japanese Occupation in Brunei and Brunei Rebellion by Dr Rozan Yunos, Adjunct Professor at the Centre for Lifelong Learning, Universiti Brunei Darussalam, and OBOE 6 by Associate Professor Dr Garth Pratten from the Strategic and Defence Studies Centre, Australian National University. The course participants also had the opportunity to visit the Brunei Australia War Memorial and the Royal Brunei Armed Forces Museum.
Throughout the week, the course participants gained valuable insights that not only enriched their understanding of Brunei’s history but also encouraged them to think critically about the key events from various points of view. This deeper understanding equips them to better address current and future challenges with lessons learned from the past. Their progress was evident during their summative presentation assignment, where they thoughtfully shared their insights and analysis from this week’s lesson.
